Dr. John J. Myers, P.E., Professor of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering and Director of the Missouri Center for Transportation Innovation (MCTI), joined Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) under the University’s Infrastructure Mission Enhancement Program in March 1999. Dr. Myers has been actively involved in high performance materials from a research standpoint for the past thirty years. In particular, his focus has concentrated on the development of advanced materials for application in structural engineering primarily focusing on advanced composites materials and sustainable advanced concretes. These have included research efforts on fiber reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM), fiber reinforced polymer (FRP), steel reinforced polymer (SRP) and steel reinforced grout (SRG) technologies for repair and new construction in civil infrastructure. His efforts in the development of environmentally sensitive advanced concrete construction materials have focused on the development and application of high-strength/high performance concrete (HS/HPC), high strength self- consolidated concrete (HS-SCC), high volume fly ash self-consolidating concrete (HVFA-SCC) behavior and durability performance. His efforts have contributed to the code & standardization of these materials and led to the deployment of these systems into field application with in-situ studies into structural health monitoring (SHM), non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and load testing of these technologies for bridges. Dr. Myers has published more than 300 technical journal and conference publications along with 100 technical research reports. Professionally, he is very active in ACI, ASCE, ASEE, IAAM, IIFC, PCI, TMS, and TRB and serves as an active committee member in numerous technical and educational committees within these organizations. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in and has over 11 years of professional consulting experience. He is a Fellow of ACI, ASCE, IAAM, IIFC, TMS and VEST. Professor Brahim Benmokrane is one of the world’s top and an internationally renowned expert in the field of structural concrete internally reinforced with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement. His pioneering research has produced ways to use fiber composites to replace steel in concrete structures, thereby eliminating the deterioration of urban infrastructure.Professor Benmokrane has developed innovative materials used worldwide. He is in demand worldwide as a lecturer for seminars and courses. His research has significantly influenced the development of concrete structures reinforced with FRP bars, building codes, design specifications, and its practical use in North America and beyond. He has pioneered the development of related specifications and industry standards for using these new structural materials. He has made outstanding contributions to research, teaching, innovation, and leadership targeting the development of FRP reinforcement for concrete structures and their durability, structural performance, field applications, development of design codes and standards and the unflagging pursuit of knowledge transfer to industry. His research and sustained leadership in technical societies and technology transfer have contributed to widespread use of FRP rebars around the world. His expertise is sought after for professional seminars, international conferences, and academic courses worldwide. His recognition as a leader in his field is not limited to his colleagues in academia but extends to industry, professional societies, and public agencies. His contributions go beyond his cutting-edge research to include leadership and involvement in developing international design codes and specifications for engineers and users. Professor Benmokrane has organized and chaired several international conferences/workshops in his research field and has freely given of his time and expertise in delivering many intensive courses, seminars/webinars, and workshops to thousands of engineers, researchers, and professionals across Canada and around the world. His research and professional services have been recognized with several awards. Some of his more note-worthy awards have come from ACI, CSCE, CSA, IIFC, NSERC, and the Royal Society of Canada (Fellow of Academy of Science). Professor Benmokrane has published over 750 papers, books, and book chapters and delivered over 250 lectures worldwide. The outstanding merit and research significance of Professor Benmokrane’ s publications are widely recognized by many people in universities, industries and government agencies as well as being extensively referred to in national and international codes and design guides. Professor Benmokrane holds the prestigious Tier–1 Canada Research Chair in Advanced Composite Materials for Civil Structures and the NSERC-Alliance Industrial Research Chair in Innovative FRP Reinforcement for Sustainable Concrete Infrastructures at the Department of Civil and Building Engineering at the University of Sherbrooke (Sherbrooke, QC, Canada). He currently leads a research group of 35 and has trained 185 researchers. He founded the world’s largest research lab on FRP reinforcing bars for concrete structures at the University of Sherbrooke, which helps the industry in developing and receiving approval for new construction materials requiring certification under International Codes and Standards. Over the last 25 years, Professor Benmokrane has worked with Canadian and international engineering firms and government departments and counts many world firsts to his credit in terms of bridges, parking facilities, water-treatment plants, and tunnels. He has acted as a consultant on major national and international projects using FRP bars, such as the Nipigon Cable Stayed Bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway (northwestern Ontario, Canada), Highway 40 & Champlain Bridge (Montreal, Canada), TTC Subway North Tunnels (Highway 407) (Toronto, Canada), Port of Tanger Med II (Morocco), and Port of Miami Tunnel (FL, USA).

Dr. Sheikh is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Mineral Engineering at the University of Toronto and a Fellow of The Canadian Academy of Engineering. He was the Graduate Chair of the department from 1998 to 2004 and Academic Chair from 2009 to 2012. Before joining Toronto in 1989, he was a faculty member for nine years at the University of Houston. He also holds adjunct High-Level Talent Research Professorship at Zhengzhou University, China. He has served as Chair and member of several ACI-ASCE (American Concrete Institute-American Society of Civil Engineers) technical Committees on Reinforced Concrete Structures. Currently, he is active in several code committees and chairs the CSA (Canadian Standards Association) committee on fibre reinforced concrete structures of the Canadian Highway Bridge Code. Dr. Sheikh’s major areas of research include condition assessment of structures, seismic resistance of concrete structures, seismic upgrade, FRP-reinforced concrete structures to create durable, resilient, and corrosion-free infrastructure, development of new materials and rational analytical models, and design procedures to withstand impacts of extreme loads, environment, and climate change. He is known as a pioneer and a world leader in his field. He has authored over 240 papers published in international journals and conference proceedings and has a U.S. patent to his credit for an Expansive Cement. His published research has formed the basis of many design provisions in North American, European, and Asian design codes among others. His work has been extensively cited by researchers and used by engineers. His recent research on upgrading of structures with FRP has provided unique solutions for sustainability and resulted in several applications around the world. This innovative and economical solution for the deteriorating infrastructure has been featured in various TV programs such as CBC National, Discovery Channel, and print media. His consulting activities around the world have focused on complex structural issues such as investigation and upgrade of bridge structures for safety and sustainability, seismic assessment and upgrade of large cement manufacturing plants, and upgrade of historic structures. Dr. Sheikh has received several awards and accolades for his accomplishments. For his outstanding research contributions and training of leaders in engineering, he has received the coveted American Concrete Institute Structural Research Award, Horst Leipholz Medal, and A. B. Sanderson Award from the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers and The Senate of Canada Sesquicentennial Medal. He was also presented with the high Civil Award ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ by the President of Pakistan for his achievements and services to engineering education. He has received prestigious fellowships for lecture tours in Japan, China, Saudi Arabia among others. He has also been recognized for excellence in teaching by his students and peers who presented him with the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Outstanding Teaching Achievement Awards and The University of Houston Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Sheikh’s non-engineering activities are focused on understanding the social, economic, religious, and political complexities of struggling societies and help educational activities in these regions.

Apostolos Kyriazis, Apostolos Kyriazis holds a Diploma (BArch and MArch) in Architecture, an MSc in Urban Planning, and a PhD in Architecture and Urban Regeneration from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He has 23 years of experience, with three awards in architecture competitions, two participations at the Venice Biennale of Architecture (with Greece and Egypt), one exhibition participation with the ECC (European Cultural Centre) in Venice, Italy, and numerous housing and urban planning projects in Greece, UAE (with clients such as ADHA, MUSANADA and ALDAR for Emirati Housing), Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt. Kyriazis joined Abu Dhabi University in 2015 and was recently promoted to Associate Professor. He runs educational workshops awarded by the International Union of Architects (UIA - Greek Chapter) and the International Schools Association (UK), and he has given lectures at institutions such as LSE, Sorbonne, TUBerlin. He conducts research on urban regeneration, urban morphologies, public space, informality, and social housing, with a solid funding and collaboration track record with global institutions such as ADEK/ASPIRE, ISOCARP, LSE, SORBONNE, EU ERASMUS+, and numerous Conference presentations and publications. He was the lead author of two recent books about Abu Dhabi, namely: “Abu Dhabi Public Spaces: Urban encounters, social diversity and (in)formality” and “Vertical Horizontal: a critical account of high-rise architecture in Abu Dhabi”. He is also a photographer with several participations at group exhibitions, including the “Vantage Point Sharjah 5” of the Sharjah Art Foundation and three international awards/distinctions, including “Abu Dhabi Through your Eyes”, in 2018. He is a founding member of three Amateur Astronomy Societies in Greece and the UAE where he resides.

Professor Sánchez-Silva has over 25 years of experience in risk analysis and stochastic modeling to support the decision-making process in engineering under uncertain conditions. He works extensively on Probabilistic Risk Analysis (PRA), stochastic modeling, and approximate measures to estimate potential risks for infrastructure, network systems, and industrial facilities. Furthermore, he has experience assessing risk in complex problems under conditions where information is partial, incomplete, and difficult to quantify. Finally, he has been involved in projects where socioeconomic and environmental contexts play a significant role and, therefore, traditional risk modeling and engineering methods can only be applied partially. Some of his current areas of research include the design and management of infrastructure systems (structures and lifelines); stochastic modeling of deteriorating systems and structures; flexibility, adaptability, and resilience of infrastructure; Sustainable infrastructure management and decision-making for resource allocation and cost-effectiveness of investments in the design and operation of various types of facilities.

Vistasp M. Karbhari is a Professor in the Departments of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, &Civil Engineering, at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he served as the 8th president from 2013 to 2020. An internationally reputed researcher, Dr. Karbhari is an expert in the processing and mechanics of composites, durability of materials, infrastructure rehabilitation, and multi-threat mitigation and has authored/coauthored over 460 papers in journals and conference publications and is the editor/co-editor of 6 books. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS); the National Academy of Inventors (NAI); the American Society of Civil Engineers; ASM International; the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM); the International Institute for Fiber-reinforced Polymers in Construction; the International Society for Structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructure; ASCE’s Structural Engineering Institute, and is an elected member of the European Academy of Science and Arts. Prof. Dr. Chee-Ming Chan is currently a Professor with the Department of Civil Engineering Technology, Faculty of Engineering Technology, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. She is also a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineering & Technology, UK. She is also a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the IET, UK and a Professional Engineer (Ir.) registered with BEM of Malaysia. Dr. Chan was previously a postdoctoral visiting scholar at the Port and Airport Research Institute in Japan from 2009-2011. Dr. Chan’s first degree (BSc. Civil Eng.) was awarded by KUiTHO-UTM, Malaysia in 2001. She then pursued her PhD in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Sheffield (UK) on the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation, MOSTI’s scholarship, returning in 2006 to serve at the present university. Dr. Chan is member to several key societies relevant to her profession, namely International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), Southeast Asian Geotechnical Society (SEAGS), International Geosynthetics Society- Malaysian Chapter (MyIGS), Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Society of Engineering Education Malaysia (SEEM) and Geological Society of Malaysia (GSM). She is also serving as the Secretary for MyIGS since 2018, facilitating the coordination of engagement between industry and universities, particularly in the field of geosynthetics applications. Dr. Chan has authored over 150 technical papers, including entries in seminars, conferences and journals, as well as 3 modules for undergraduate courses. She has published a book, The Sinking Earth, in 2012, an easy-to-read introductory book to ground improvement techniques. Her research interests have always revolved around sustainable geotechnics, with innovations to make poor quality soils into usable materials. Indeed, Dr. Chan has for the past decade in active collaboration with the Marine Department of Malaysia and various industrial as well as research institutional counterparts to explore the fundamental characteristics of dredged marine soils from Malaysian and regional waters, with the aim of transforming the otherwise discarded materials into useful recycled geo-materials. Her research effort in this direction has received recognition with the award of several grants worth over 150,000 USD from various national agencies and the industry. Steadfast in her belief that research findings should be channeled to greater good of the people and beyond, Dr. Chan is striving towards engaging more industrial players in addressing the issue of inappropriate disposal of dredged marine soils, and encouraging the reuse of the material based on reliable scientific discoveries while sharing and disseminating research-based knowledge, skills and technology. It is her hope that Malaysia will one day, in a future not too far away, become a regional leader in giving beneficial second lives to these geo-wastes, consequentially contribute to nature conservation and resources optimization. As an academic, Dr. Chan is also appointed as Accreditation Panelist for Civil Engineering and Geotechnical Enginering by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), as well as Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC) of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). Being in Digital Construction for over than 10 years, Mohammad is actively contributing to the field of digital construction through driving integrative and transformative strategies in both academia and the industry. Mohammad is a recognised scholar in his area, led and participated in many conferences and exhibitions, and actively publishing in globally recognised journals. His research activities focus on data and information management and handling, using socio-technical mechanisms to tackle complex issues across the whole life cycle of a construction project. Mohammad has been teaching across a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the UK including civil engineering, construction management, quantity surveying and building surveying. In recognition of his contribution to academia, he was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award representing UK and Europe by Associated Schools of Construction. Dr. Liu has supervised research projects granted by National Natural Science Foundation of China (Youth Project), Chongqing Natural Science Foundation, Nonmetallic Excellence and Innovation Center for Building Materials, etc., and also, Dr. Liu has participated projects including National Key R&D Program of China, National Academy of Sciences Project of United States, etc. Dr. Liu has published more than 20 SCI journal papers, with accumulative citations over 630 times and H-index of 13 (Google Metrics). Dr. Economou’s teaching and research are in the areas of shape grammars, computational design, computer-aided design, and design theory, with over sixty published papers in these areas. He is the Director of the Shape Computation Lab, a research group that explores how the visual nature of shape can be formally implemented with new technologies to enable new paradigms in CAD, design automation, visual scripting, and creative design.
